If you’re anything like Angela, winter is not your friend. Days of perpetual cold, dry skin, early sunsets, and early morning car scraping are just not your thing and getting out of the warm cozy bed in the morning is the WORST. According to our so-called friend Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction at the beginning of this month, we still have six more weeks of winter. *cue collective groans* In case Groundhogs named Phil have any fortune-telling powers, here is our list of things we like to do to chase away the winter blues.
1. Guilty pleasure TV
We have no shame expressing our love for reality TV, binge-watching Netflix and Hulu, and lol’ing at our favorite late night talk show hosts. Take advantage of the fact that a ton of TV shows start in the winter (or catch up with a show you’ve been meaning and get-to-watching.
If you combine watching TV with #2 below, you’ll be getting a double whammy of entertainment and productivity! What could be better?

2. Get moving!
It might suck getting there, but your body and mind will thank you when you add some physical activity to your usually sedentary winter lifestyle. The list of physical possibilities is virtually endless, so there’s no excuse of not being able to find something to do. To give a brief idea, there’s yoga, free workout videos on Youtube, hitting the free fitness center at your apartment complex or university, and of course having house-cleaning become an impromptu dance party for one. 😉

3. Embrace the cold for what it is
Along with icy roads, slow traffic, frostbite, and wet boots, winter also brings along with it opportunities to drink hot cocoa, cuddle under warm blankets and hide from the world, and revel in warm vanilla and sugar cookie scented candles. Might as well take these opportunities when they present themselves, right?

If you’re feeling daring, you could also try your hand at a sport or activity known for its winter popularity. There are ice rinks all around Omaha and even a ski/snowboard area near Council Bluffs, not to mention countless good hills around town for sledding! You gotta start training for the next Winter Olympics some time! 😉
If Angela can do it, so can you!
4. Brighten up your space
Do you love flowers but think it’s impossible to find any good-quality ones during winter without spending an arm and a leg? Look no further than your local craft store! Take advantage of those coupons Michael’s and other craft stores send out via e-mail and buy some artificial blooms to bring some springtime home with you. If you arrange them just right, no one will even know they’re not real!

5. Pamper yourself
Take a moment to troll your Groupon app and see if you can find something that strikes your fancy! There are always deals for manicures (ah…), spa treatments (ahhh…), and massages (ahhhhh…). Purchasing through Groupon can save you over 50%, so what are you waiting for?
If you’d rather indulge in some luxury right at home, invest in some treats like bubble bath (might I recommend Lush’s bath bombs) or a new nail polish!

6. Stay social
It may be too cold to walk around the Old Market and hit up da club, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t see your besties! Invite them over to watch a movie (or guilty pleasure TV, see #1), host a hot cocoa party, or order pizza and have a game night.

Also, there are plenty of indoor activities that can be perfect to do when it’s cold outside– HELLOOOO movie theaters, local brewery tours, bowling and arcade deals, and big games on at Omaha’s many sports bars.
7. And finally…
… Take a moment to appreciate that bugs are not an issue when it’s cold! 🙂
Have a wonderful week, lovely readers!
