I turned 24 on the 24th last week and apparently it’s called (other than a golden birthday) your champagne birthday! This weekend, I did pop champagne or, well, sparkling moscato and had some ice cream cake because apparently I can be an adult and a little kid all at the same time. PS, the cake was delicious. My birthday itself was pretty uneventful as it was on a Wednesday, but I enjoyed a nice dinner with Daniel and rewatched some 30 Rock.
As February comes to a close – it always goes by so fast! – I am reminiscing again about the goals that I set at the beginning of the year and reflecting on the current progress. As far as personal goals, they are going really well! I am focusing on eating better and working out more (well, let’s just ignore last week because it was a cheat week) and am starting to feel the benefits!
Throughout next month, I’ll still be working on setting aside time for myself. I’ve been finding it difficult to fully relax or find doing nothing fully relaxing because my mind doesn’t like to calm down 🙂
I had thought that shutting my mind off was just something I’ve needed to get used to but relaxing, as I found out via Cosmo magazine is different for everyone! “If you fully engage in something that you have a legitimate interest in, your body will go on autopilot. Called being in ‘flow’ by psychologists, this intense focus coincides with a cocktail of hormones and chemicals that blend to calm your nervous system and slow your breathing, according to researchers at Duke University, making it possible for an otherwise Zen-challenged woman to recharge.”
If you’re not finding going to a concert or taking a bath relaxing, maybe there is something else that can bring you closer to true relaxation. Every person is different so everyone’s approach to relaxation will be different, too. I’m sure that if I’m having trouble relaxing, that some of you guys are too! I hope this was helpful for you and that we can all find what makes us ‘in flow’ soon. Here’s to a productive and restful week!
