Happy Friday! We can’t wait to celebrate with Whitley and Kris later today! Angela and I met Whitley and her brother a few years ago as interns in our IT jobs so this wedding is extra-special for us! We’ll try our best to not get teary-eyed or emotional at the ceremony or throughout the day but we make no promises. 🙂
Introducing Whitley and Kris!
How did you meet?
It all started with Melissa, a mutual friend! Kris was a friend of a college friend to Melissa. Melissa and Whitley went to high school in Verdigre together. They kept in touch and it happened that Melissa was looking for a place while Whitley was looking for a roommate in early 2015. While catching up, Melissa mentioned she thought we would be good together, and knew we lived close to each other. She gave each of us each other’s numbers. We started talking Easter weekend. Then, once Whitley got back into Omaha Sunday afternoon, Kris and Whitley met on Easter, April 5th, 2015. We’ve talked every day since, and the rest is history!
How did he propose?
Kris proposed on December 17th, 2015. After a nice home cooked meal, we had a date night where we went to The Alamo Drafthouse Theater. We had drinks and saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. After the movie, we went to the truck and when Kris opened the door for me, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
Where are you going for your honeymoon? Why did you choose it?
Myrtle Beach, SC. We wanted to go somewhere with a nice resort and a beach to relax at, but wanted to avoid any concerns with the current Zika virus areas.
What was your favorite vacation together?
Kris: Our trip to Texas. It was spontaneous (in that it was not planned far in advance!) and even though it originally was not for a fun reason, we turned it into a very fun trip! We took turns with the music, every other song, I like country and she likes more pop music, stopped at her sister-in-laws favorite burger/ice cream joint in college in Kansas that was on the way, stayed in a very fancy hotel for a great last minute deal, and ate a great and relaxing meal at the hotel restaurant.
Tell us one of your favorite times with your future groom!
Whitley: It would either be my cousin Heather’s wedding, because that was the first time Kris and his daughter came back home to Verdigre with me and met both of my parents, or our year anniversary night. Even though we hadn’t been dating long, when we went back to Verdigre for Heather’s wedding, I could tell we would make a great happy family, we fit together really well! Our anniversary night, well actually we forgot/missed our actual anniversary, but were so relieved both of us were so laid back and not uptight about a specific date or necessary celebration. We celebrated later that week by dressing up and going to the casino and then to Spezia. It was a fun and romantic night just the two of us.
What was the first thing you noticed about the groom?
I noticed how good of a father he is to his daughter. He was so caring, sweet, fun, and responsible with her, I just knew he was the kind of guy I’d been looking for!
What was the first thing you noticed about the bride?
Her eyes and her smile.
What are your favorite shared hobbies?
Our go to is dinner and a movie. We usually pick a nice new restaurant we’ve never been to, and either go to the theater to see a new release or a Redbox movie or two and cuddle on the couch watching it.
What is your favorite restaurant and dish at that restaurant?
Whitley: The Gandolfo at Gandolfos!
Kris: Steak and potatoes at Cheddars
Tell us about your pets!
We have 3 dogs, Abbey, Hank, and Rocket. Abbey and Hank are mini dachshunds (wiener dogs). I’ve had Abbey 8 years, since she was an 8 week old puppy the moment I moved out of the dorm! I adopted Hank from the Nebraska Dachsund Rescue 3 years ago, he’s 9 years old now. They are both very much attached to me at the ankles 🙂 Abbey is the barker, and Hank is the grumpy old man who really only loves me! Kris and I adopted Rocket, a German Shorthaired Pointer from the Great Plains Pointer Rescue as his birthday present last December. Rocket is a goofy dog who only wants your love and attention, and is Keerah’s wrestling partner!
What song is your all-time favorite jam?
Whitley: Right now, it’s Me Too by Meghan Trainor
Kris: House Party by Sam Hunt
