I’ve fought the urge many a time to post a darkly lit picture of sushi or a shadowy photo of my dinner on Instagram because the photos just don’t have that crisp, clear, bright aesthetic that we love to showcase! Conveniently, I recently discovered this amazing app that perfectly filters food photos for you!
Introducing – the Foodie app!
Here’s an example of amazing sushi but the picture just doesn’t do it justice. It really looks even *more* appetizing in person.
The Foodie app has 30 different filters so far so you’re bound to find one that gives your food that lil something’ extra. I always try to choose a filter that make the food look as delicious as it does in real life so, if you’re wondering I generally stay in the Yum or Fresh categories 😛
Since the filters work with the lighting of the restaurant, you may start to see a pattern of which filters make your food look the best! If you eat at night in dimly lit restaurants, Yum 1 may be your go-to while those eating ice cream in the middle of the day may gravitate toward the Sweet filters a bit more!
You can take photos directly in the Foodie app and filter it right when you take it but I like to take them with my normal Camera and then import them into the app so I can keep the original just in case. Each filter has a slider button so you can choose how intense or mild you want the effect to be. Along with the 30 filters, the Foodie app has a few more features – the ‘Sun’ button looks like it gives you a setting for Contrast and the ‘Water drop’ button lets you blur the edges or top/bottom of the image.
Here’s a comparison of the different filters I thought made the sushi look the best:
I think Chewy 4 looks the best though it is really similar to Crispy 2, it’s a bit more natural while still keeping those vibrant colors. It also doesn’t make the fish look really slimy like Crispy 2 does. Yum 1 is close to the original but the food was really more colorful in person!
All of the food pictures on last week’s personal post were edited using the Foodie app! It’s currently free on the App Store and I highly recommend it for any amateur foodies like ourselves 😉
We’ve been using it on our last 2-3 #bbefoodventures posts and it’s amazing!
