What if we told you that there was a way to make your wedding day even better – and it was free! A first look is where the couple sees eachother on the wedding day prior to the ceremony. There is an emotional reveal and you get to spend some time together pre-ceremony taking photos, hanging out, and calming eachother’s nerves/hyping eachother up!
It allows your photographer to take photos of the wedding party all together and get some fabulous portraits right after your hair and makeup are done, your bouquet is fresh, and your groom’s suit is wrinkle free 🙂 First looks go against the tradition where the couple can’t see eachother before the wedding ceremony on the wedding day so if those reasons aren’t enough to sway you, here are 3 reasons why you should consider doing a first look!
1. You Get The Best of Both Worlds
For us brides, the big reveal is so important! Seeing your groom’s reaction at the end of the aisle makes the wait so worth it. But what if I told you that there is an option for an even better reveal? What we as brides want more than to surprise the groom with how fabulous we look is to get a reaction! Will he tear up? Will he smile the biggest smile ever? I’m sure you’ll get a reaction from your groom when he sees you for the first time down the aisle on your wedding day and it’ll be absolutely magical, no matter what he does! You won’t even notice anyone else in the room 🙂
But he’ll be well aware of the hundreds of faces on him trying to see if he’ll shed tears. A first look gives you the freedom to bawl or hug or kiss or react however you want! Plus, during the ceremony you can’t really talk to eachother so when he wants to tell you how gorgeous you look, he’ll have to whisper it to you in passing or wait until the ceremony is over. Not ideal!
2. You Have More Time
An early ceremony takes place usually around 2 pm, many start at 4 or later. That means that you’ll go half the day without seeing your other half! Hello! This day was supposed to be all about you guys as a couple! On this happy occasion that celebrates your love for eachother, a first look allows you to spend time with your eachother as much as possible.
3. You Can Savor the Moment
On a day that is packed full of one thing right after the other, a first look may be the only time you have to take a second, soak it all in, and savor the moment alone together! It’s the calm before the storm that is one hectic day of saying hi to every single one of your guests, followed by eating, throwing bouquets, and dancing the night away.
If I could do it all over again, I would have opted for a first look! What is your take on it?
