I’m sure your friends and family want to know all the details about your wedding day including your colors, the date, and the theme! One of the things that we struggled with when we were wedding planning was describing the look of our weddings. And I say ‘look’ instead of ‘theme’ because we didn’t want weddings that were centered around themes. Themes were cheesy – we wanted something unique! The theme was us!/love!/stuff that we like!
The idea of a theme can be quite restricting. But could we describe our weddings otherwise? Did we even have a defined style or was our style “whatever was cool that we saw on Pinterest today”?
Finding your wedding style requires a lot of introspection, careful and critical curation, and a bit of creativity. Here are our 3 tips for discovering your unique style!
1. Lists
You’re only planning one wedding so narrowing down your inspiration will the hardest part! Look for wedding decor and inspiration that make your heart happy. This is easy to do on Pinterest, just repin images onto a new board and update the description to note exactly what you love about the photo. Decide if this photo is something you want at your own wedding. If you only like the image, click on it and instead of repinning it, scroll down to see the related pins and try repinning those! Doing this has led us down the rabbit hole of fabulous inspiration 😉
2. Curate
If you can’t find many photos to convey your style, less is more! Don’t dilute your style with photos of decor that’s *almost* perfect or you’ll lose sight of your original vision. Stick to your board and your wedding style will unfold easily. In case you’ve pinned too many pins, just start a new board and only keep the best of the best photos. Each pass through your boards should give you more clarity of what you want in your wedding. It’s so important to distinguish whether the decor or inspiration is something you love or just something you appreciate but it’s not for you.
3. Recreate
After you’ve figured out your style, the hard part is over! When you search for decor, stick to your mood board 100% and incorporate elements that emulate the same look and feel into your wedding. Done!
A timeless, beautiful, and personalized wedding style will look amazing in your photo album for years to come!
