Ahh, summertime is almost upon us! That means we have so much to look forward to– picnics, swimming, sipping wine on the patio, and of course, summer weddings!
While the nuptials of summer are so amazing for so many reasons, choosing something to wear can be daunting because there are so many options!
Here are some pieces that you can combine to create a fabulous outfit, great for attending the daytime ceremony to partying the night away.
1. A fab dress!
The dress is the focal point of your look – just like the bride’s!
Look at the wedding invitation you received for hints about the style, tone, and formality of the wedding. (The invitation is supposed to help you choose an outfit!) Keep in mind the formality of the ceremony and reception venues as well as the design of the invitation itself and choose a dress that is not “too much” or “too casual”.
Typically, the wedding colors will be present in the invitation so if you don’t want to look like a bridesmaid, choose something a little bit different from the color scheme. Besides that, anything goes as long as it fits the formality of the event!
In general, you should avoid wearing white/cream/ivory to a wedding unless you are wearing white jewelry (such as pearls, etc). If your patterned dress contains a splash of white, it is probably ok as long as the dress is mostly a different color.
Once you have the dress down, it’s time to accessorize!
2. Heels!
Think you won’t be able to survive a 12 hour wedding extravaganza in heels? Look for shoes that are in the 2-3 inch heel range and contain memory foam. (We love Comfort Plus from Payless!)
If you will be in a grassy area all day, opt for cute wedges instead of heels! They are easier to walk in and won’t sink into the ground 🙂
If heels are out of the question, flats and sandals are also more than appropriate! Just make sure your feet are guarded accordingly – a lot of walking and dancing in flat shoes can do arch and heel damage, so be wary!
3. Accessories!
We are in love with big chunky statement necklaces and earrings – they’re bright, fun, and feminine!
They are great for weddings, but just make sure the pieces you choose aren’t over the top! If you go with a flashy necklace, try for some understated earrings and bracelets, and/or hair pieces, and vice versa. Choose one or two pieces to focus on. (In this case, less is more!)
4. Carrying your belongings!
The bag you choose should compliment your outfit and -again- fit the type of wedding you’re going to. A beach bag tote-ally (get it? :)) works for a casual beach wedding. Similarly, go for a metallic clutch for a more formal affair! All you need for a wedding is your phone, keys, cash, and your makeup essentials so give your everyday bag a rest and swap it for your cute clutch!
