Armed with thousands of hours of knowledge via YouTube and applying makeup to myself, I was pretty confident that I could apply wedding day makeup to both myself and Angela (and our awesome bridesmaids) on our wedding days! I focused on using makeup with long lasting power that would work well with sensitive skin.
I was excited to do makeup for Angela’s and my weddings as I was able to put my arsenal of beauty products to work! My friends and I tend to go for the naturally flawless look 😉 so it was pretty easy to grab anything and everything (though we ended up with a very neutral palette) and just go for it!
So you want wedding day makeup that lasts all day and looks fab in person and in pictures? These are my special additions to our makeup routines that enhanced our natural looks on wedding day and stayed all day and night!
1. Foundation Primer
Start off with a great base! After applying moisturizer and letting it sit and sink in for a few minutes, we applied Bareminerals Prime Time all over our faces to create a nice smooth texture for our foundation.
2. False eyelashes or waterproof mascara
You’re bound to shed a few tears, or at the very least get a bit sweaty so some waterproofing around the eyes is always a good idea. If you’re a bit skeptical of waterproof mascara being truly waterproof, a good alternative option is to use false eyelashes instead! Cut each lash strip into sections or apply individual lashes towards the outsides of your eyes for a natural lash lengthening look. Apply lash glue to the base of the false lashes and wait a few seconds before applying to allow the glue to get tacky. Using tweezers, apply the eyelashes as close as you can to the base of your real lashes. Once the glue is dry, cover any exposed lash glue with liquid liner and curl all your real and false lashes to help them combine in a natural way. Now, you’re good to go!
3. Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder
This is similar to Bareminerals Mineral Veil but is designed specifically for photos. Mineral veil has the potential to make you look lighter in photos due to the reflective particles in the product. Using a bit of this helps soften any blemishes, redness, scars, discoloration, or even wrinkles! It gives you that airbrushed look in photos and works magic!
4. Urban Decay Setting Spray
Setting spray is absolutely essential! Spray all over your face once your makeup is finished and it will help it stay all day! There is also a matte version so brides with oily skin can have all-day makeup too! Make sure to apply this last!
5. Lip Stain
The sounds of clinking glasses and “you may now kiss the bride” means you’ll need some long-lasting, non-transferable lip products handy. Go au natural or use a lip stain! Lip stains bind the color directly to your lips so they are not meant to do much in terms of moisturizing or giving your lips a glossy look BUT for color that won’t disappear after kissing or eating, this is your best bet!
We carry some of these essentials (the shareable ones) in our wedding day emergency kits so if you want a little something extra on your wedding day – we got it covered! We’d love to hear any other long-lasting products that you recommend for a wedding day in the comments!
