We had many daunting (read: cruel and unusual) challenges in the years while planning our weddings. We planned during our senior year of college amongst capstones, graduations, job hunting, and a fire in our dorm. Yes, a fire. Yet, with the help of friends, family, and the Omaha community, we managed to overcome the numerous setbacks and struggles and planned and coordinated our own weddings spectacularly.
But, if we had the chance to start the whole process over, would we do it again? To be honest, no.
Our own wedding planning experiences were fun, challenging, exciting, stressful, pretty much all of the emotions. But the only emotions we wanted on the wedding day and the days leading up to it were excitement and gratitude that our friends and family came in for our special day. Though we are so incredibly happy with how our own weddings went (weddings are always ‘perfect’ in your own eyes, aren’t they?), in hindsight, we realized that we could have saved a LOT of time and energy spent worrying, researching, DIYing, seeking advice, and decision-making if we had enlisted the help of wedding planners.
Kayla probably spent over 1000 hours wedding planning. Yet, on the wedding day, her camera was misplaced, her big entrance into the church wasn’t timed correctly, and the backdrop for the cake left something to be desired. In other words, we realized far too late in the game that a wedding planner is truly a valuable and irreplaceable resource. Just like a photographer, a planner is a resource that you will always be glad you had, one that you will never regret investing in.
Wedding planning is something that you can do on your own. It’s time consuming – fun, at times – but also a lot of work and stress. Wedding planning is not meant to make your hair fall out, your groom roll his eyes, or make your daily work pile up. Like most things, it is difficult to succeed at pulling off on your first try. This is why we’re here.
