When I was wedding planning, I found a ton of inspiration but most of it wasn’t quite right. I didn’t have the budget of a ‘Martha Stewart Weddings’ bride or the aesthetic of a ‘The Knot’ bride. It took me hours and hours of looking on Pinterest for anything worthwhile and I ended up finding better inspiration elsewhere though 1000+ pins later, I realized that at least it was a great starting point!
You may have to search for a while to find an aesthetic that you really love and that is ok because it will make your wedding that much more unique and personal. Here are our suggestions for finding your perfect wedding inspiration photos!
We can’t talk about wedding inspiration without talking about Pinterest! There’s an overwhelming amount of content on Pinterest but there comes a point when it leaves something to be desired – a lot of the pins are either super DIY or really luxurious and you might be looking for something more attainable. Pinterest algorithms have changed the game over the years so it’s a bit harder to find unique and affordable ideas nowadays. You have to be really strategic about your searches.
To get the most out of Pinterest, you should use it like you would use Google and Be Descriptive. There are billions of pins on Pinterest but if you search for ‘pink wedding’ you’re going to get the same 20 pins that tons of other people have seen already. Try ‘bright pink outdoor wedding’ or ‘vintage pink wedding plate ideas’ or ‘blush wedding centerpiece in mercury glass’. You do have to have a vague idea in mind when you search on Pinterest otherwise you’ll get a bunch of ideas that don’t go together or just see a bunch of Promoted pins.
Social media has changed the wedding game and it continues to do so! (PS: Are you following us on Instagram? You should – here!)
There are endless ways to find absolutely amazing inspiration on Instagram! Use the Search function to search by a business or person’s name and find tons of local vendors this way. You can also Search by tags like #omahawedding and #nebride and you’re bound to find some great local stuff! Branch out and Search for #-insert state here-weddingphotographer and you’ll find some beautiful stuff! After that, you might go down a rabbit hole of Suggested Users and end up following 50 wedding professionals and all of a sudden your feed turns into a colorful explosion of weddings. It’s ok, it’s only temporary!
Wedding Magazine
Wedding magazines aren’t going anywhere! You can find tons of tips and inspiration and vendor recommendations inside! Unlike the fast paced digital world, magazine features tend to be a bit more detailed and elaborate, giving you inspiration for a whole wedding, not just one small piece of it. You can see how a cohesive theme ties into one wedding and you can give your scrolling fingers a break 🙂
Wedding Blogs
Better yet, find a good blog! (Sorry, scrolling thumbs.) There’s so much inspiration to be found on your photographer’s website, other photographers’ websites (they don’t have to be local), our website 😉 , and your standard wedding blogs! Southern Weddings blog is one of our faves and it is actually where I found a lot of my own wedding inspiration. Give it a shot and see what you think!
Once you’ve gotten a general idea of what you want your wedding to look like, you’re gonna need the help of a planner to pull it all together 😉
We’re now booking for 2017 and we’d love to hear from you!
