Last week was non-stop action for us and it doesn’t look like the rest of August is going to slow down at all! It’ll be packed full of meetings, planning, networking events, and not to mention all the other random stuff like normal work, dentist appointments and jury duty… (Hey but at least we’ll be exempt for the next 5 years!) With all that stuff going on, will we even have time to nap this month? 🙁
We get so focused on the big goals for our business that sometimes the journey can feel overwhelming. It takes an incredible amount of hard work and determination to reach your goals and a lot of people make it look easy but it isn’t!
We have a hard time with being bored. We rarely sit still and often go from one goal to the next or work on 5 different goals at the same time! Our society glorifies busyness and admires the people that reach the top of the ladder in the fastest amount of time and those people are so admirable that we want to do the same thing and be successful just like them! But, sometimes we forget that success doesn’t necessarily come from accomplishing the most in the fastest amount of time. What matters is a life of beautiful moments and the enjoyment of every single day!
It is really cool to see what we have accomplished so far and where we’re going next but at the same time, it is easy to fall into a cycle of creating without intention and pushing yourself to higher and higher standards while losing track of what made you start in the first place. It’s so easy to become busy for the sake of being busy. I mean, seeing all your hard work pay off is so rewarding! It makes us anxious to complete our next shoot or wedding or workshop because we love seeing our ideas and creations come to life! It means that we are one step closer to honing our craft and establishing a solid business reputation!
We had a teacher in seventh grade that told us that all we did was wish our lives away. We wanted to be older so that we could drive and see R rated movies and go to college and be real adults. Now that we’re actually real adults, we reminisce all the time about the good times we had in the past and actually appreciate our youth more than we did when we were younger!
For everyone working towards a future goal whether it is saving up for a house or a vacation, working towards your next promotion, or getting your shiny new degree – remember that the life you are living now is worth appreciating and savoring, too. Getting a college degree was awesome but the most memorable part of the experience and the part that we relive the most was the four years leading up to it! Appreciate today and enjoy the ride!
