Happy Friday! It’s time for another installment of Wedding Planning Wisdom below!
Right after getting engaged, wedding planning is fun and exciting and new! When you start planning, you probably start with the basics first – the date, budget, guest list, and maybe even the venue and photographer too. But after a while, the novelty of planning may start to fade and that’s when you’ll get a sense for how the rest of the planning process is going to be. You may start to feel a bit overwhelmed or worn out just when the most detailed part of wedding planning is beginning – creating your wedding style.
When I was planning my wedding, I had a color scheme and an idea of what I DIDN’T want my wedding to look like, but that was it. So the most logical place for me to turn was Pinterest! And turn to it I did. I pinned literally 1400+ pins on my wedding board. And guys, this is way, WAY too many pins. I was pinning everything and anything just because it
1. had my color scheme
2. was a cute/ingenious idea or
3. something I might find useful/read later
I can tell you that that is definitely not the most efficient way of defining your wedding style or the most practical. Since then, I’ve come up with a few tips about creating your wedding style:
1. Be really super extremely picky
If you are using Pinterest, you need to have a discerning eye. Pinterest has such an abundance of inspiration that if you pin what you like instead of only what you REALLY love, your board may end up looking the same as the Everything feed. It takes a bit to discover or develop your style if you aren’t going in with a certain style already in mind but, you should start to see a pattern develop or at the very least, a vague sense of what your wedding will be like.
Keep at it and maybe have ANOTHER board of Wedding Favorites just to narrow down your picks some more. 10 pins that 100% encompass the look and feel of your wedding day will be so much more helpful to you and your vendors than 100 pins that are more diverse.
2. Tie in what is available to you already
So you pin a whole bunch of elegant castle weddings only to find out that there are no elegant castles around. Ugh.
You may need to come up with another idea or a plan of compromise such as finding a ballroom venue with some castle-like elements or bringing in luxurious tablecloths to give your venue a similar feel.
3. Call in reinforcements
If you just can’t for the life of you, envision what you want your day to look like or are able to put your vision in your head into words or pictures – enlist a planner’s help! Basic Bash’s Coordination and Design package is designed for brides who get through the big things and then start looking at all the design elements and don’t have a clear vision of what to do next! Your wedding style doesn’t have to be “rustic” or “nautical” or anything that is easily described with words 🙂 It can just be “you”!
