Yay for the Digital Age! Today we’re telling you all about creating a top notch wedding website! We love wedding websites because you can give tons of information, directions, and instructions to your guests and update it at any time! Your wedding website may be the first website you’ve ever “created” but, don’t worry, there are plenty of tools to make creating it as easy and fun as possible!
1. Where Do You Get A Wedding Website?
If you go ahead and Google ‘wedding website’, you will find SO many options available! So which do you choose? Well, it all depends on what you are looking for in a website and how customizable you want the layout and design to be. More options, customizations, and features are usually what justify a higher cost but just because a site is paid, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better! There are so many free options out there too! And if you want something short and sweet and you’re willing to poke around a bit, a free website may be right up your alley.
The Knot, Wedding Wire, and Squarespace are some of the most common platforms for building wedding websites and if you want to be really fancy and high-tech, there are even a few wedding apps available! Appy Couple is a personal favorite of mine!
2. What Do You Put On It?
First thing’s first, we recommend that you password protect your website or avoid putting any super personal information on your website – you just never know. Anything that you wouldn’t want on your public profile on Facebook, you should probably avoid putting here.
These are the basic things to have on your website:
1. Your relationship story – Your besties might know the whole play-by-play of your relationship but your family may not! Throw your fave engagement pics all over this page and show off your cute relationship as much as possible!
2. Wedding and reception details – Date and time, locations with addresses, time the food starts ;), what to wear, if they should bring cash for the bar, etc are all helpful tidbits of information for your guests to know or be reminded of in advance!
3. Registry info – For the friends and relatives that want to help you build your first married home, add links straight to your registry make it super easy for your guests to send their love in the form of stuff 🙂
Optional (but awesome) stuff to also add to your site:
1. Your bridal party lineup – How cute would it be if you had a photo and a paragraph or two about your bridesmaids and groomsmen and how you met on your site! So cute.
2. The ability to RSVP online – The easier it is for your guests to RSVP, the easier it is for you to get your RSVPs!
3. Photo album – Appy Couple has a built in photo feature where you can take a picture directly in the app and it uploads to a shared album. It’s the 21st century equivalent of having disposable cameras on every table! Let others contribute to your wedding website so they can share in the love too!
3. How Do You and Your Guests Use It?
Include a link to your wedding website in your Save The Dates so your guests can check out the initial info. Then share it again in your invitations! (Don’t forget to include the password if you have one!) It will probably be a while before all of your guests become accustomed to RSVPing online so be sure to include an old-fashioned way of RSVPing too for grandparents and older folk.
One challenge after creating your website is getting your guests to use it but if your website is useful, detailed, and fun, they’ll be happy to take a look!
