We’re keeping with the technology theme lately and talking about wedding hashtags! Wedding hashtags are a standard in millennial weddings nowadays so read on to learn how to get the most use out of them!
1. What do you use a wedding hashtag for?
Hashtags are simple ways to categorize and browse posts or images on social media. You use a hashtag to contribute to a communal photo album or a feed or conversation about a certain topic. Wedding hashtags are great for gathering photos of the wedding day from friends and family into one spot.
The hashtag or pound sign ‘#’ for the older folks followed by a word or phrase (no spaces) is one hashtag. Example: #basicbashevents
2. What platforms work best?
The most popular platforms for using hashtags are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr. Specifically for wedding photos, we have found that Instagram is the best platform. Searching and browsing hashtags is pretty intuitive. Use the search bar OR click a hashtag under a photo to see all photos with the same hashtag! To add a photo to a “hashtag album” (to use a technical term :P) just add the hashtag in the photo description or comment.
3. Choosing a good hashtag
Ideally, your wedding hashtag would be a clever play on words and hasn’t been used by anyone else yet. Pro tip: Think about a hashtag that you can keep using once you transition into married life!
4. Making people use it
A wedding hashtag is only as useful as the amount of people contributing and amount of pictures that are linked to it! Spread the word about it to your guests on your wedding website, with a sign at your reception, through your Facebook status, or by just using it yourself on Instagram!
Does the word hashtag look weird to you yet? We use so many hashtags to organize our work (and other stuff ;)) on social media!
