Blogs are such a valuable tool for businesses and a resource for others! Blogs are mysterious in how they work since they don’t provide instant gratification – you don’t sell services or products on a blog and users may even troll on blog comments or not comment at all! We aren’t getting paid for blogging through ads or sponsored posts, so what is the point of blogging?
1. Connect with your audience!
Business websites represent your business professionally whereas a blog is where people can get to know the actual people behind the storefront! Small businesses are inherently more personal than big businesses so with an industry as personal as weddings, we place a high value in connecting with our client as much as possible. We want to mesh with our clients because we will be assisting them for months and months to prepare for their wedding! Can’t get more personal than that!
For a small business with a blog, there is little to no barrier between owner and customer, so use that to your advantage! It is so interesting learn about the people behind the business and even better if your audience can relate to you! Use your blog as a way to connect with your audience and give them insight into the person, people, and staff behind your business.
2. Showcase your work!
One of the most valuable ways to use your blog is to highlight your work! Prospective and current clients love seeing what you have done in the past! The wedding industry is a highly visual field so vendors in many if not all the fields have many opportunities to showcase their work!
Photos of planning get boring after a while (you would see us e-mailing, creating spreadsheets, on the phone, surrounded by paper, etc) so we have mainly our design work up on the blog. Be creative with what you show and don’t be afraid to share it all! Show photos of your work to the world!
(but here is an example in case you wanted to know)
3. Highlight your expertise!
You are knowledgeable about so many things – I know it! Whether it is about your job, hobby, relationships, career – even if you don’t own your own business, you have knowledge and insight that others don’t have. In fact, don’t think about it as “expertise” but if you are more knowledgeable than the average person about a subject, then it is worth blogging about!
Blogs connect, entertain, relate, impress, inspire, educate… the list goes on and on!
They are a resource, a portfolio, and more!
